Schistosoma is a human-animal interchangeable parasite with a wide variety of hosts, mainly cattle, pigs, dogs, sheep, horses, cats and rodents, and more than 30 kinds of animals. There are seven developmental stages in its life history: adult, egg, trichuri, mother larvae, daughter larvae, caecal larvae and child larvae. Among them, the caecilians are the infective stage; caecilians, child worms, adult worms and eggs are all pathogenic, but eggs are the most important pathogenic stage. Among the six species of schistosomes that parasitize humans, three are the most prevalent, namely schistosoma egypti, schistosoma mansoni and schistosoma japonicum. The main lesions are granulomas in the liver and colon caused by the accumulation of eggs.
